(2) Mechanical reasons
①If connection between pump and coupling, due to irregularities, cause vibration and noise. It’s required to revise the coupling.
②When the dirt in oil enter into the gear oil pump, the oil pump gears and other parts get wear, thus generating noise. It’s suggested to change oil, strengthen the filter, and disassemble the pump for cleaning; for the badly worn gear, the gear should be repaired or replaced.
③When pump severely damaged or worn parts will produce vibration and noise: like the gear tooth pitch error, bad connection of two gears, tooth surface roughness high, too small backlash, the contact area not in the two gear pitch circle location, etc. In this case, replace the gear or grinding the gear. Meanwhile, needle roller bearing cage damaged, the length of the shaft journal and needle wear, can also lead to poor bearing rotation, thus produces mechanical noise, in this situation, it’s suggested for an overhaul, replacement of needle bearings.
④Gear assembly axial gap is too small; sliding gear face contact between the front and rear cover, due to failure to remove the burr carefully before assembly, thus strained joints during operation, and cause a large leak inside and output flow is reduced; dirt entering the pump and wedging between the front and rear cover of the gap, strain the surface, resulting in high and low pressure chamber due to the occurrence of radial strain and communication trenches, so that the output flow is reduced.
The above situation should adopt the following measures to repair. Dismantling gear pumps, appropriately increase axial clearance gap; use grinding cover face and gear face in order to remove the burr (not chamfer) on the tooth; after grinding, end face of the unloading groove depth dimension will vary, thus width should be increased accordingly.

Currently, CB-B type gear pumps are widely used in the dump truck and construction machinery, now Honghai Pumps explains the common faults and exclusion methods as below, for reference only.
1. Reasons of vibration and noise, and exclusion methods.
(1) Intake air
①As for CB-B type gear pump, the pump body and both sides cover is hard seal direct contact, if the flatness of the contact surfaces do not meet requirements, the pump easily inhaled air at work; Similarly, between the pump cover and the cap, which is also direct contact, the air is easily penetrated; if the lid is plastic, due to its damage or deformation due to temperature changes, the air is easy penetrated caused by leaky seal.
To exclude this failure, the method is: when the flatness between the pump body and pump cover doesn’t meet the requirements specified, you can use emery to grind the plate back and forth by shape route, otherwise use grinding surface grinder to make flatness not more than 5 μm; for leakage between the cover and lid, it’s suggested to use an epoxy resin or other adhesive for sealing.
② Skeleton type sealing is generally used for the shaft seal. If the spring off, or the oil seal backward, or lips were strained, aging, all the above situations will make the rear end seal often in negative state , thus to intake air, a new seal should be replaced and the problem solved.
③ Not enough fuel in the tank, or the suction nozzle is not plugged in to the oil below the surface, the pump will draw air into the fuel tank and you should replenish oil to the oil marking; if the return pipe mouth exposed oil, sometimes due to the negative pressure within the system instantly leaving air anti-irrigation into the system, so the return line ports generally should be inserted into the oil below the surface.
④ Pump mounting position from the oil is too high, especially when the pump speed is reduced, because they can’t ensure the pump suction cavity caused by lack of the necessary degree of vacuum suction and thus intake air. You should adjust the relative height of the pump and the oil so that it meets the requirements.
⑤ Oil filter is clogged dirt or capacity is too small, resulting in an increase in the intake air suction resistance; in addition, into the larger diameter oil port may also be brought into air. At this point, washable filter, or select a larger capacity, and the export path appropriate filter. In this way, it not only can prevent the inhalation of air, but also prevent the generation of noise.
There are other reasons like mechanism reason, heating or output flow problem, we will explain in our coming article.

5. After choosing the pump model, for water pump and the approximate physical and chemical medium pump, it’s required to adjust the performance table or performance curves according to the product catalog or samples, in order to check if the normal operating point falls within the pump priority area. Is the effective NPSH greater than the (NPSH)? Otherwise, adjust the geometric mounting height based on the NPSH?
Gear oil pump.
6. For the pump transporting the delivery viscosity greater than 20mm2 / s (or density greater than 1000kg / m3), take note to change the water performance curve to characteristic curve of the viscosity (or the density), in particular, on the suction performance and input power, take serious computing or correction.
7. To determine the number of units and spare pump rate:
As for the normal operation, usually one pump is enough, because a large pump is equal to two paralleled small pumps (refer to head, the same flow rate). Generally speaking, a large pump is more efficient than a small pump, so to speak with energy saving, it’s suggested to use a large pump rather than two Centrifugal Pump.
When the situation is as below, two paralleled pumps are suggested:
Large flow when a pump can’t reach this traffic;
When a large pump need for 50% spare rate, two smaller pumps will be better;
For some large pumps, the pump can be used in parallel operation of 70% flow requirements, there is no need of spare pump. When a pump overhaul, another pump still carry on producing 70% of transport.
Required 24 hours for continuous non-stop operation of the pump, should spare three pumps, one run, a backup, a flat repair.
8. Under normal circumstances, customers can submit their election pumps basic conditions, and we will determine the model or recommend better solution. If the institute has determined the pump model, we will configure according to the Institute configuration requirements.

Detailed Instructions of Choosing Pumps Part 1
According to the basic principles presented before and the basic conditions, the detailed instructions are as below:
1. According to the layout, terrain conditions, water conditions, operating conditions of the device, make sure to choose horizontal, vertical, or other types pump (pipeline, diving, liquid-type, non-clogging, self-priming, gear, etc.).
2. According to the nature of the liquid medium to determine if clear water pump, heat pump, oil pump, chemical pump/ corrosion resistant pump, trash pump or non-clog pump.
Note: When pump installed in explosive areas, based on the regional level of the explosion, the corresponding explosion-proof motors should be applied.
3. According to the flow, make sure to choose single suction pump or double suction pump; according to head level, choose single stage pump or multi stage pump, or high speed pump and low speed pump (air conditioning pump).
Take note that the efficiency of multi-stage pump is lower than that of single-stage pump, when both single-stage pump and multi-tage pumps can be used at the same time, the first choice is single-stage pump.
4. Choose the specific model of the pump
After choosing which series of Screw Pumps are used, you can according to the maximum flow rate (in the absence of the maximum flow rate is usually desirable to 1.1 times of the normal flow rate as the maximum flow rate), take an enlarged head 5% -10%, the balance of these two properties after the main parameters to determine the specific model or series on the type spectrum characteristic curve. Operation is as follows:
Using a pump characteristic curve, find the desired flow values on the horizontal axis, find the lift values on the vertical axis, up and to the right from the two values cited vertical or horizontal line, right on the intersection of two lines characteristic curves, the pump is the right choice, but this ideal situation is rare, usually run into the following two conditions:
The first: the intersection is above over the characteristic curve, which shows the flow meet the requirements, but the head is not enough, in this situation, if the head is almost the same, or a difference of about 5%, you can still choose this pump, while a lot of difference, it’s suggested to select larger head pump. Or try to reduce pipeline pressure loss.
The second: the intersection is at the bottom of the characteristic curve, when it’s inside of the characteristic curve trapezoidal range, you can choose this model, and then depending on difference of head, decide whether to cut the impeller diameter.
If the head difference is small, do not cut, if the head a big difference, according to the desired Q and H, based on their ns and cutting formula, cut impeller diameter, if the intersection does not fall within the scope of the fan trapezoid, to select small head pump. When selecting a pump, sometimes you have to consider the production process requirements to choose different shapes Q-H characteristic curve.

Honghai pump on industry
Chemical
Honghai pumps are used throughout the chemical processing industry, from refineries and gas processing plants to basic chemical plants to polymer processing to end use product manufacturing. The chemical industry encompasses such a broad range of fluids and processes, that just about every type of Honghai pump made is used in one application or another.
Abrasives
Because many fluids contain abrasive particles, like waste oil or pigments containing titanium dioxide, Honghai has developed a series of abrasive liquid pumps with hardened parts and behind-the-rotor seals to minimize wear and extend pump life. Hardened parts can also be applied to Universal Seal series internal gear pumps, affording the same level of protection.
Bio-diesel
Honghai positive displacement pumping solutions are used extensively in the Biodiesel industry for raw materials, processing, transfer, and terminals. Honghai pumps can be utilized for Biodiesel produced from vegetable oils, waste fryer oil, animal fats, or other sources.
The Universal Seal series is ideal for bulk transfer or rail / tanker loading and unloading. They may be used for feedstock or finished B100 biodiesel and glycerine.
The pumps are used for process applications, handling liquids such as methanol, caustic, sodium methoxide, and FAME (fatty acid methyl ester). Typically these pumps are 316SS, though some applications will allow for cast iron.
Lubrication pump.
Rotating equipment, like large compressors, gearboxes, turbines and engines, use Honghai General Purpose, High Speed Compact, Motor Speed and Spur Gear pumps for dedicated, powered lubrication. They are also used in plant-wide lubrication systems and machine tool coolant/lubrication applications.
Honghai offers OEM pumps that are mechanically driven by the equipment that the pump is lubricating. These include reversing pumps which only flow in one direction, through the filter, regardless of which direction the shaft rotates.

Soaps and Detergents
Honghai internal gear pumps used in the soaps and detergents industry has been proven with years of practices.
As it’s known to all that the soap and detergent chemistry is a with special requirements for pumps because of it’s mixing kinds of chemicals or their own special recipes. Working principle of Honghai Detergents Pumps
Two gears in internal gear pump coming in and out so as to produce flow. While at the same time, two identical gears rotating against each other, one gear is driven by motor and drive the other gear. Both gears are supported by shaft with quality bearing.
Step one
As the gears come out of the mesh, they will create expanding volume on the inlet side of Honghai internal gear pump. And then, the liquids will flow into the chamber and will be trapped by the gear teeth when they rotate.
Step two
Liquids travel around the inner side of the casing in the pockets between the teeth and the casing - which doesn’t pass between the gears.

At last, the mesh of the gears forces liquids through the outlet under pressure. Because of the gears supported from both sides, the Honghai external gear pumps are quiet- running and are routinely used for high-pressure applications.
